About Us

Our family has always cared for our dogs as if they were our children. Even our Mom would at times make a special soup when they were ill. We called it “PP” soup in honor of our Pit Bull Eddie whose nickname was PP given to her by our Dad.

In Mom’s recipe she would only use proteins, produce and herbs that she purchased from the local farmers market. This soup would have miraculous effects on their recovery and their over-all well – being. Even our Vet once said to my parents that it was the love of the family and the soup my Mom created that helped to restore the health of Eddie when she was in bad shape.

It was this belief that all of our dogs' health was dependent on wholesome, nutritious food - food without any preservatives and free of harmful additives, food with the same standards for our dogs as the rest of our human family.

Frustrated with the fact that there were no treats or food available to us that met our standards, we took a page from Mom’s “PP Soup” and began to make our own cookies and confections.

One day sitting at the kitchen table we started to talk about making dessert for dinner. With Eddie and Mabel sitting by our side we wondered what we could make that also would be a nice treat for them to enjoy with us. This is when it all came into place. Let’s make a Treat for them that would also work for us! So off to the market we went to begin what would be the conception of Zen Belly Canine Cookies and Confections.

We started baking our own dog cookies from ingredients that included homemade peanut butter, sweet potato, blueberries, cranberries, bananas, rice flour, oats and honey. Excited by what we had baked in our own kitchen we began to experiment to make many different cookies. Simple dog treats became Confections and a variety of cookies until one day a cake. This became a family time event so the baking brought quality time to the family (pups included) and the outcome was Cookies and Confections that made even our baby girl Heifer (Boston terrier) smile – literally!

With Mom’s PP Soup recipe as our guide we never used any of the popular dog allergens including corn, soy and gluten grains including wheat. With the use of local produce and proteins our Cookies and Confections were naturally organic. They became very popular with the pets of our friends and neighbors. So we thought it was time to share what we created for our best friends, to everyone.

Our Philosophy

The relationships we have with our dogs are often as rewarding and as important as those we share with our family and friends. These relationships are far more powerful then owner and pet, but in many cases, that of parent and child.

As the guardian to our furry family members, providing all things necessary to nourish their body, mind and spirit is essential to their over-all happiness. Along with the perfect combination of exercise, training, socialization and environment, we believe that a thoughtful approach to nutrition is the foundation of their well-being.

We believe that when these principals guide the basis of product development, optimum health, vitality and wellness follow, ensuring that you and your pet enjoy a healthier, longer and more fulfilling life together. What could be better?

This philosophy coupled with the unconditional love that went into Mom’s “PP” soup for our baby Eddie guides every Zen Belly recipe we make.
